Simi Valley has lured a Thousand Oaks city official away to become its new director of general services.
Simi Valley City Manager Mike Sedell hired Stephen C. Elam, now deputy director of finance for Thousand Oaks, to the $86,000-a-year post after a nationwide search.
Elam, 44, will oversee budgeting, fiscal administration, personnel, computers and customer service. He starts work Feb. 5.
Elam took the Thousand Oaks job in 1987 after working for 11 years with Exxon Co. He holds a bachelor’s degree from Biola University and a MBA from Pepperdine University.
Elam’s appointment fills a vacancy created in August when the former director of general services, Laura Herron, was promoted to assistant city manager.
