Castaneda, Wallace Team Up in Canyon’s Upset of Hart, 68-55
Senior guard Ruben Castaneda scored 22 points as the Canyon High boys’ basketball team upset Hart, 68-55, in a Foothill League game Saturday night at Valencia High.
Senior center Brian Wallace added 15 points for the Cowboys (11-7, 2-1 in league play). Junior forward Cory Johnson led the Indians (13-6, 2-1) with 19 points.
Saugus 63, Burroughs 60--The Centurions (10-7, 3-0) rallied from a 15-1 deficit in a Foothill League game. Major Sherard had 17 points, and Kyle Jolly added 16 for Saugus. Jolly made 12 of 13 free throws.
Jorge Sotomayor had 18 points for the Indians (10-8, 1-2).
Notre Dame 57, Servite 54--Jorge Piedra scored 20 points for the Knights (10-9) in a nonleague game at Notre Dame.
L.A. Baptist 74, Maranatha 69--Aaron Davis scored 29 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, and Russ Brumpton scored 26 points for the Knights (12-5, 2-1) in an overtime Alpha League game at Maranatha.
Ryan Davis added eight points and 12 rebounds for L.A. Baptist.
GIRLS’ BASKETBALL
Oxnard 46, Dos Pueblos 38--Nicole Black had 16 points and 12 rebounds for the Yellowjackets (10-5, 4-1) in a Channel League game at Oxnard.
Buena 68, Hueneme 35--Nicole Greathouse scored 22 points for Buena (13-0, 5-0) in a Channel league game at Buena. Stephanie Kinnear added 12 points for the Bulldogs.
Hart 60, Canyon 26--Candace Boller and Yasmine Gomez each scored nine points for Hart (12-7, 3-0) in a Foothill league game.
Harvard-Westlake 55, Marymount 15--Corrie Roberts scored 18 points and had nine steals for the host Wolverines (12-5), who led, 21-2, at halftime in a nonleague game.
Burbank 53, Valencia 40--Arsineh Harapeti had 15 points and Michelle Starkey added 11 for Burbank (7-7, 1-1) in the Foothill League game.
Kelly Warden had 11 points and 10 rebounds for the Vikings (6-10, 0-3).
Burroughs 62, Saugus 31--The Indians (11-7, 2-1) rolled to a 16-2 first-quarter lead in a Foothill League game at Saugus.
Teroya Roberson had 13 points and 13 rebounds for Burroughs. Joanna Garrick contributed 10 points and 10 rebounds and Erika Huber added 11 points.
BOYS’ SOCCER
Burbank 4, Valencia 0--Santiago Giangrasso and Gonzalo Peralta each scored two goals in the first half for the host Bulldogs (7-6-1, 1-1) in a Foothill League match.
Canyon 4, Hart 1--Ramon Simental scored two goals, and Jair Yepez and Renzzo Aguilar each scored one as the Cowboys (8-9, 1-2) downed the Indians (5-7-2, 1-2) in a Foothill League match at Hart.
GIRLS’ SOCCER
Crescenta Valley 3, Buena 0--Michelle Cena, Heidi Greco and Heidi Reinhard scored as the Falcons (14-2-2) defeated the Bulldogs (8-3-3) in a nonleague match at Crescenta Valley.
Canyon 2, Hart 1--Cassie Hencey scored with eight minutes to play, allowing the Cowboys (5-9-1, 3-0) to edge the Indians (10-3-2, 2-1) in a Foothill League match at Hart.
