Caremark Clinic Purchase Gets Regulators’ OK: The managed-care company said state regulators approved its purchase of 29 Southland clinics from Cigna Corp. The deal creates one of the largest U.S. medical groups and nearly quadruples the number of Southland health plan members using Northbrook, Ill.-based Caremark International Inc.’s medical group, Friendly Hills Healthcare Network in La Habra. Friendly Hills will serve 400,000 members in Orange, Los Angeles, San Bernardino and Riverside counties, including 300,000 from Cigna, company officials said. Caremark expects Friendly Hills to contribute more than half of the anticipated $1 billion in revenue this year from its national physician practice management business.
