Pumpkin Power

The Smashing Pumpkins’ “Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness” has shown remarkable staying power for a two-disc album of all new material. Written almost entirely by pioneering Pumpkin Billy Corgan and clocking in with more than two hours of music, the 28-song set debuted at No. 1 in October and has remained in the national Top 10 ever since. Currently residing at No. 8 on The Times’ Southern California album chart and No. 9 on the national chart, “Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness” has topped the local and national hard rock album charts five of the last six weeks.
