JUNEAU, Alaska — Coast Guard personnel, dressed like Santa, delivered gifts and stockings stuffed with treats to about 450 children in remote villages on Kodiak and Afognak islands in the Gulf of Alaska, 200 miles south of Anchorage.
With a “Land ho!” replacing the usual “Ho, ho, ho!,” the Santas headed out in Coast Guard cutters, helicopters and ferryboats last week for the 19th year of the gift program run by the Coast Guard Officers’ Wives Club.
