END OF AN ERA: DONAHUE RESIGNS : Pasadena, 1983

Jan. 1, 1983--Gets first Rose Bowl victory as coach, 24-14, over Michigan.

Jan. 2, 1984--Leads Bruins past Illinois, 45-9, in the Rose Bowl.

Jan. 1, 1985--Gaston Green rushes for 144 yards in his first start as UCLA rallies from a 21-7 deficit to defeat Miami, 39-37, in the Fiesta Bowl.

Jan. 1, 1986--Eric Ball rushes for 227 yards and two touchdowns as the Bruins defeat Iowa, 45-28, in the Rose Bowl.

Jan. 1987--After much deliberation, turns down opportunity to become coach of the NFL’s Altanta Falcons.

Jan. 2, 1989--UCLA becomes the first school to win seven consecutive bowl games. Troy Aikman passes for 172 yards and a touchdown in a 17-3 victory over Arkansas in the Cotton Bowl.

1985, 1993--Is named Pacific 10 Conference Coach of the Year.

Jan. 1, 1994--Donahue’s final appearance in the Rose Bowl. J.J. Stokes sets Rose Bowl record for receptions (14) and receiving yards (176). UCLA had the ball on the Wisconsin 15 as time expired in 21-16 loss.

1995--Seriously considers becoming head coach of the Rams until the team officially announces it is moving to St. Louis.

Nov. 18, 1995--Beats USC, 24-20, giving him an unprecedented five consecutive victories in the rivalry and making him the winningest coach in Pac 10 history with 98 conference victories.

Dec. 11, 1995--After leading Bruins to 13 bowl games in 20 seasons, Donahue resigns as coach to take a job with CBS sports.
