OXNARD : Town Hall Meeting to Focus on Youth
Oxnard leaders are scheduled to host a town hall meeting Wednesday to discuss the worsening problems facing the city’s youth, and what city officials, residents and community leaders can do to improve the situation.
Councilman Bedford Pinkard asked the City Council last month to schedule the meeting, saying a recent spate of gang-related slayings illustrates a worsening problem.
In addition to gangs, the discussion will cover drug and alcohol abuse problems, diminished youth involvement in education, career guidance for young people, family troubles and the lack of positive activities available to Oxnard youth.
Councilmen Tom Holden and Pinkard, city officials and representatives of nonprofit groups recently finished working on a master plan for youth--a blueprint for fulfilling the needs of young people in Oxnard.
City leaders plan to discuss the master plan and outline what Oxnard residents can do to keep the city’s young people involved in constructive activities.
The meeting is set for 7:30 p.m. in the Oxnard City Council chambers at 305 W. 3rd St. For information, call 385-8101.
