Maybe There Is Free Lunch, If You Can Make It to 100
SPOKANE, Wash. — When Lorena Hinkle and Gillie Anderson turned 100 recently, their dentist gave them a special treat.
The dentist, Bryan Anderson, hired a limousine to take them to the posh Spokane Club for a birthday lunch of chicken and dumplings and baked Alaska.
“They both have enough teeth that I can take them out to lunch,†said Anderson, who is not related to Gillie Anderson. Hinkle has lost only four teeth while Anderson has about half of hers.
The women have a remarkable number of their own teeth considering they grew up in an era without fluoride-treated water, he said. As girls, they brushed with baking soda and salt and went to a dentist only for emergencies.
