CROSS-COUNTRY : Stamps Seeks Second National Title

SAN DIEGO — Julia Stamps of Santa Rosa High will try to become the third two-time girls’ champion when the national cross-country championships are held at Balboa Park’s Morley Field today.
Stamps, a junior, is the defending national champion and undefeated this season. She is coming off course record-tying victories in the state Division I and West regional championships.
West regional runner-up Kim Mortensen of Thousand Oaks, Midwest regional champion Katy Radkewich of Beaumont High in Cleveland Heights, Ohio, and Northeast regional champion Dana Ostrander of Shenendehowa High in Clifton Park, N.Y., are expected to be Stamps’ strongest challengers.
In the boys’ race, South regional champion Sharif Karie of West Springfield High in Springfield, Va., is the top returning runner.
