SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO : Solag Disposal to Leave Los Rios in Land Swap
After nearly 25 years of operating in the historic Los Rios district, Solag Disposal Co. is packing up and leaving town.
The waste disposal company will be moving to a new maintenance yard off Ortega Highway several miles from city limits on land leased from Santa Margarita Co., said Douglas Dumhart, management analyst.
Under terms of an agreement between Solag and the city, Solag would give the city the two-acre Los Rios property in exchange for six acres of city-owned land along San Juan Creek. The two parcels have been appraised as equal in value, about $1.5 million each.
Solag also would pay for the first $450,000 of cleanup costs at the Los Rios site. After that, the city and Solag would share the costs of cleanup, Dumhart said.
Los Rios Street is listed in the National Register of Historic Places as one of the oldest residential streets in the state.
