Rancho Santiago was shut out until Mark Fausto’s one-yard touchdown run with 9 minutes 36 seconds remaining as the Dons were defeated by Chaffey, 29-7, in the Upland Ford Bowl Saturday at Chaffey College.

Rancho Santiago (6-5) was held to 34 yards rushing, including minus-37 in the first half.

Chaffey (7-4) went ahead, 7-0, when Vernon Murray recovered a high snap that went over Dons’ punter Jerry Arguello’s head and into the end zone less than two minutes into the game.

Panther quarterback Steve Smith added a one-yard touchdown plunge and also returned a punt 70 yards for another score to give Chaffey a 22-0 lead at halftime.
