Without Honor
* Saturday, Nov. 11, at the Heisler Park Memorial site, where about a dozen veterans in uniform conducted a memorial service for our American war veterans, only two women and later two men came to observe the services, honoring our U.S. military war dead and veterans of all wars.
The service was announced in the newspapers, and by other means. It was not only embarrassing, but a disgrace, not only to our war veterans but to active duty men and women now serving in military service, and to our fellow citizens.
Are our residents so busy with ballgames, TV, shopping and other distractions that no schools, children, adults or youth care about honoring those who have served to protect our peace and freedom? Do people here think the United States receives its history of peace, fought for and by our veterans, as a gift, like manna from heaven? Do they even care?
