ANAHEIM — A man who police believe fled because he had drugs in his car died Friday night after crashing his car during a chase from Costa Mesa to Anaheim, officials said Saturday.
Costa Mesa police said they tried to stop Jeffrey Lloyd Novak, 39, of Fullerton about 10:30 p.m. after a license check revealed he was wanted for several vehicle code violations, including speeding, running a red light and reckless driving.
After refusing to pull over, Novak fled onto the Orange Freeway into Anaheim, police said.
Novak exited the freeway at Lincoln Avenue and sped through a residential neighborhood before losing control of his car and crashing near the intersection of South Rio Vista and Frontera streets, said Lt. Alan Kent of the Costa Mesa Police Department.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Kent said authorities found drugs in the man’s vehicle, but he declined to say what kind or how much.
