Cathleen Black to Head Hearst Magazines: The head of the newspaper industry’s biggest trade association and a former publisher of USA Today was named president of Hearst Corp.’s prestigious magazine division. Black replaces D. Claeys Bahrenburg, who Hearst said “resigned to pursue other interests” after more than 5 1/2 years leading the division that publishes Good Housekeeping, Cosmopolitan, Esquire and other magazines. Hearst executives would not elaborate on Bahrenburg’s departure and he was said to be unavailable. But executives, speaking on condition of anonymity, denied that it was related to the recent decision to cut circulation while boosting advertising rates at the magazines.
