Playing on the same team as Faye DeVera means Becker doesn’t receive much attention, but Becker says she doesn’t mind. Tuesday in the Southern Section Division II final, Becker was just as important as DeVera to the Spartans’ narrow victory over Laguna Beach. Becker won, 6-1, 6-0, 6-2, giving up one fewer game than DeVera (6-4, 6-0, 6-0) and Villa Park won on games, 72-71. “It was the best tennis I’ve seen her play,” Villa Park Coach Sue Gardiner said.

Cross-Country

Amber Pierce

* Los Alamitos, senior. Led the Griffins to second place in the State Division I final, finishing 14th by running 3.1 miles in 19 minutes 11 seconds.

Tennis

* El Dorado. Oldridge, a freshman, won 6-1, 6-0, 6-1, and Weisz, a junior, won 6-1, 6-1, 6-4, as the Golden Hawks beat Hemet, 87-74 in games, to win the Division III title.

Volleyball

* Mater Dei, senior. Had 15 kills in a three-game victory over Los Angeles Roosevelt and 20 in a three-game loss to Bakersfield Stockdale in the State Division I playoffs.

Jenny Roberts

* Calvary Chapel, senior. Had 15 kills and six blocks in a three-game victory over Bakersfield Garces and 15 kills in a three-game victory over El Cajon Christian in the State Division IV playoffs.
