La Reina Swept Away by Sierra
TOLLHOUSE — Top-seeded Sierra High of Tollhouse spoiled La Reina’s bid to reach the semifinals of the State Division IV girls’ volleyball tournament, beating the Regents, 15-8, 15-5, 15-9, on Saturday night.
The fourth-seeded Regents (20-3) received an at-large berth and were making their first appearance in the State playoffs, after losing in the quarterfinals of the Southern Section tournament to eventual champion Paso Robles.
La Reina defeated San Diego Clairemont in a first-round game of the State playoffs Tuesday night.
Sierra (22-3), representing the Central Section, will face third-seeded Santa Ana Calvary Chapel on Tuesday night in the semifinals.
Santa Ana Calvary Chapel advanced with a 15-9, 16-14, 15-6 victory over El Cajon Christian Heritage in another quarterfinal Saturday.
