A military transport plane carrying 62 people crashed into the Indian Ocean off the Jaffna peninsula in northern Sri Lanka, and government officials said they feared that Tamil rebels brought it down. Navy gunboats scoured the sea for the two-member crew, 54 soldiers and six airmen.
