SANTA ANA : Convenience Store Regulations Weighed
Faced with a number of requests for licenses to open convenience stores, the City Council has set a study session next week to debate how to regulate such businesses.
Some council members have expressed concern that all-night markets could become a magnet for illegal activities such as prostitution and a target for robbers.
At its session Monday, the council will discuss conditional-use permits in general and how they might be used to set hours and other limits on convenience stores and other businesses, said Robyn Uptegraff, the city’s executive director of planning and building. Also on the agenda is the Santa Ana 2000 Scholarship Fund, founded in 1993 to provide money to local high school students attending Rancho Santiago College.
The 6:10 p.m. study session will be in the conference room of the Central Library, 26 Civic Center Plaza.
