Lawson, from Ocean View High, became a scoring force as a midfielder as the Pirates had their most impressive week of the season. Lawson had a goal and an assist as Orange Coast, ranked third in the state, beat top-ranked Cypress, 2-1, Tuesday to move into first place in the Orange Empire Conference. Lawson scored two goals in OCC’s 3-2 victory over Irvine Valley last Friday. Lawson has five goals and three assists this season.
