Police Puzzled by Brutal Slaying of Inglewood Man, 71
Inglewood police remained baffled Monday over a lethal attack on a 71-year-old man that was so brutal investigators didn’t know how he was killed.
“It was vicious,†Detective Russell Enyeart said of the attack on William Goins.
Goins, who lived alone, was discovered about 9 a.m. Saturday face-down in a pool of blood in his house in the 10600 block of South 2nd Avenue. It did not appear he had been shot, Enyeart said, but it was unclear if he had been beaten or stabbed. “There was blood everywhere,†the investigator said.
Police stopped by Goins’ home after he failed to show up for an appointment Friday and an acquaintance could not reach him by phone.
Goins owned apartment buildings in Inglewood, Los Angeles and Hollywood and had a reputation as a kind man among his tenants, Enyeart said. Goins was known to waive security deposits and even loan money to renters who were short on money.
Goins’ reputation has made investigators all the more puzzled over why anyone would want to kill him.
