Bilingual Seminar on Diabetes Planned
People who want to learn more about diabetes are invited to attend a free bilingual seminar Saturday at St. John’s Regional Medical Center in Oxnard.
The seminar, “Facts on Diabetes,†will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the hospital’s garden-level conference center, 1600 N. Rose Ave. Topics, to be presented in English and Spanish, will include blood glucose monitoring, stress management and proper meal planning.
The program is being held in recognition of November as National Diabetes Awareness Month. And it is being held in two languages because the Latino population is especially hard-hit by the disease.
While Latinos make up only about a quarter of Ventura County’s population, they make up half of the county’s estimated 60,000 diabetics, according to the American Diabetes Assn. And Latinos have higher rates of complications related to the disease, including severe eye disease that can lead to blindness.
Seating for Saturday’s seminar is limited and preregistration is required. For more information call 988-2660.
