OXNARD : Bicyclist Riding in Traffic Hit by 2 Cars
A bicyclist who failed to yield to traffic near an Oxnard intersection remained in guarded condition at a hospital Sunday after he was struck by two cars, Oxnard police said.
Francisco Ramirez Padilla was struck just after 5 p.m. Saturday on Wooley Road east of Oxnard Boulevard, officials said.
Padilla rode his bicycle between stopped cars in the westbound lanes of Wooley Road and then tried to cross the lanes of eastbound traffic. Police said he rode directly into the path of a car driven by 69-year-old Herlindo Sanchez Jimenez of Oxnard. Although Jimenez tried to stop, he could not avoid Padilla, who was then hit again by a car driven by 79-year-old Albert Whitely Foster of Oxnard.
Padilla sustained head injuries, a possible broken ankle and abrasions, police said. He was in guarded condition in the intensive care unit of St. John’s Regional Medical Center in Oxnard, a hospital spokesman said. Preliminary tests indicated that Padilla had cocaine and opiates in his bloodstream, officials said.
