After calling presidential straw polls meaningless, Senate Majority Leader Bob Dole of Kansas won one in Orlando and his campaign trumpeted it as proof of grass-roots support. Dole beat former Tennessee Gov. Lamar Alexander, who ran second, and Sen. Phil Gramm of Texas, who was third, at the Florida Federation of Republican Women event.
