Mistrial in Bribery Case Against Ex-Rep. Lukens

WASHINGTON — A mistrial was declared Thursday in the bribery trial of former Rep. Donald Lukens (R-Ohio) after jurors declared themselves deadlocked on two charges that he conspired to take $15,000 in bribes from two Ohio businessmen.
U.S. District Judge Gladys Kessler declared the mistrial a day after jurors had acquitted Lukens on three other bribery counts.
Justice Department prosecutor Thomas Eicher said a new trial would be sought on bribery and conspiracy counts. Defense lawyer Harvey Volzer said he would seek a judgment of acquittal based on insufficient evidence.
