MEDICAL WINDFALL: The Los Angeles-based Assn. of Black Women Physicians has awarded scholarships to eight women enrolled in Southern California medical schools.

“Our main goals are to be a source of support for black women physicians and to organizations dedicated to the advancement of health care needs in minority communities,” said Dr. Claudia Alleyne, a neonatologist at the UCLA Medical Center in Santa Monica and president of the association.

Each year, African American women medical students who are either from Southern California or enrolled in Southern California schools are given scholarships from the association based on their financial needs and dedication to their work.
