Emulex Corp.: The Costa Mesa designer and manufacturer of software- and hardware-based computer network access products incurred a net loss of $3.5 million, or 59 cents a share, for the first fiscal quarter, contrasted with net profit of $669,000, or 11 cents a share, for the same quarter a year ago. Revenue for the quarter ended Oct. 1 declined 44% to $10.4 million from $18.5 million. Emulex said first-quarter results were affected principally by reduced sales to such customers as Xerox, Ricoh and other manufacturers. Variations in orders from these customers “present challenges for Emulex,” said Paul Folino, president and chief executive.
