ROUNDUP : Cal Lutheran Aced Out by UC San Diego Sweep
It took the UC San Diego women’s volleyball team just three games to end Cal Lutheran’s 15-match winning streak as the Tritons, ranked eighth in the NCAA Division III coaches poll, downed the fourth-ranked Regals, 15-9, 15-6, 15-13.
Mieke Biesheuvel had 12 kills and eight digs for UCSD (11-9), which had nine aces in the nonconference victory at Cal Lutheran.
Tracy Little had 12 kills and five blocks for the Regals (16-2). Karen Kasper added 11 kills.
Cal Lutheran made six ballhandling errors and nine passing errors. The Tritons committed two passing errors without any ballhandling mistakes.
GIRLS’ VOLLEYBALL
Poly d. Grant 15-11, 12-15, 15-13, 15-3--Latoya Seeley had 10 kills, Patty Sandoval had 19 assists and Kelley Allen had seven aces as the Parrots (7-2, 5-1) beat the Lancers (4-5, 3-3) in a Valley Pac-8 Conference match at Grant.
Sylmar d. North Hollywood, 10-15, 15-7, 15-5, 15-5--Anne Guevarra had 18 kills and Sandra Smiley added 25 assists as the Spartans (8-0, 6-0) rallied for a Valley Pac-8 Conference victory at North Hollywood (4-5, 3-3).
Canoga Park d. Reseda, 15-11, 15-7, 15-13--Karen Kotitschke had nine kills, four blocks and two aces for the Hunters (4-5, 2-4) in a Valley Pac-8 Conference match.
Thousand Oaks d. Royal, 13-15, 15-7, 16-14, 1-15, 15-6--Courtney Miller had 15 kills for the Lancers (8-1, 8-1) in a Marmonte League match at Thousand Oaks.
Carrie Swartz and Danielle Upmeyer each had 15 kills for Royal (8-3, 7-2).
Camarillo d. Newbury Park, 15-10, 15-2, 15-6--Kasey Jungwirth had 11 kills and Tana Peraza added 14 assists for the Scorpions (5-6, 3-6) in a Marmonte League match at Camarillo.
Saugus d. Canyon 4-15, 15-13, 15-7, 10-15, 15-13--Jennifer Phillips had 16 kills and Erika Lilley had 45 assists as the Centurions (8-1, 5-0) beat the host Cowboys in a Foothill League match.
Harvard-Westlake d. Chaminade, 15-2, 15-2, 15-2--Jenni Kriste had eight aces and Lindsay McNiel had seven for the visiting Wolverines (7-1, 5-0) in a Mission League match.
Santa Clara d. Nordhoff 15-7, 13-15, 15-9, 6-15, 15-4--Niecee Madrigal had 16 kills, Marianne Moll had 12 kills and Katie Thomas had 32 assists as the Saints (8-3, 5-0) upset Nordhoff in a Frontier League match at Santa Clara.
Oak Park d. Carpinteria 15-0, 15-4, 10-15, 15-9--Rheana Mantooth had 10 kills and Lorianne Belmont added 23 assists as the Eagles (9-2, 3-2) defeated the Warriors in a Tri-Valley League match at Oak Park.
WOMEN’S GOLF
Subway Ram Fall Classic--Candida Kim of Pepperdine shot 226 over three rounds to win by two strokes in a women’s tournament at Fort Collins, Colo.
Gaylen Matsumura of the Waves finished in a tie for 13th at 244. Pepperdine finished fourth.
BOYS’ CROSS-COUNTRY
St. Francis 20, Crespi 37--Kevin Koeper and Andy Van Orden ran 1-2 as the Golden Knights (7-0, 5-0) clinched a share of their second consecutive Mission League title.
Koeper, third in last year’s Southern Section Division III championships, timed 16 minutes 43 seconds over the three-mile course. Van Orden clocked 17:07.
GIRLS’ CROSS-COUNTRY
Ventura 26, St. Bonaventure 57, Hueneme 127, Calabasas 154, Santa Paula and Malibu no score--Alyson MacIntosh placed first as the Cougars had five of the top 10 finishers in the nonleague meet at Steckel Park in Santa Paula.
MacIntosh, defending Channel League champion, timed 19:33 over the three-mile course.
GIRLS’ TENNIS
Granada Hills 5, Chatsworth 2--The Highlanders (8-1, 6-0) won three of four tiebreakers in a Northwest Valley Conference match.
Monroe 7, San Fernando 0--The Vikings’ four singles players lost six games combined to defeat the Tigers (2-7, 1-5).
Kennedy 5, El Camino Real 2--Claudia Menjivar (9-0) and Gloria Cardoza (9-0) won for Kennedy (8-1, 5-1) in a Northwest Valley Conference match.
Westlake 14, Simi Valley 4--Erin Smith, Helena Horak and Katy Smith swept their singles sets in a Marmonte League match for the Warriors (11-1, 9-0).
Agoura 16, Channel Islands 2--Jennifer Donahue was a 6-1, 6-1, 6-1 winner at No. 2 singles for Agoura (10-3, 7-2) in a Marmonte League match.
Harvard-Westlake 15, Notre Dame 3--Christine Kahm and Leila Nassari led a sweep of the doubles for the Wolverines (10-1, 8-0) in a Mission League match.
Chaminade 16, Bishop Montgomery 2--Teresa Galido swept her sets at No. 1 singles, 6-0, 6-0, 6-0, for Chaminade (11-2, 8-1) in a Mission League match.
Burroughs 18, Valencia 0--The Indians (11-3, 7-0), who lead the Foothill League, won all but one game in singles and dropped just 11 games in doubles while trouncing the Vikings (2-9, 0-7) at Valencia.
WOMEN’S SOCCER
Moorpark 1, Santa Barbara City 0--Bonnie Borup scored and goalie Joleen Redublo stopped a late breakaway to preserve a Western State Conference victory for the host Raiders (7-3-2, 2-0-1).
