Mitsubishi Motors May End Venture With Chrysler: The Japanese auto maker is considering dissolving its U.S. car production agreement with Chrysler Corp. by 1999, a Mitsubishi Motors Corp. official said. Mitsubishi produces about 100,000 cars a year for Chrysler at its Mitsubishi Motor Manufacturing of America plant in Normal, Ill. A Mitsubishi spokeswoman, speaking on condition of anonymity, said Mitsubishi Chairman Hirokazu Nakamura told Japanese reporters recently that if the U.S. auto maker wanted to go independent after the current vehicle production arrangement expires in 1999, Mitsubishi’s plant in Illinois would build only Mitsubishi models. It now also produces Eagle Talon, Chrysler Sebring and Dodge Avenger models for Chrysler.
