DeVera, ranked second in Southern California in the 16s age group, is dominating her high school competition; she hasn’t lost more than three games in any of her 27 sets. Last week, she helped the Spartans stay undefeated, beating her competition, 6-2, 6-1, 6-0, in a 9-9 (77-71 in games) victory over Canyon in a Century League match. “She’s improved in every phase of her game,†Villa Park Coach Sue Gardiner said. “She has especially improved her serve-and-volley game.†DeVera also won 6-0, 6-0, 6-0 in a 17-1 victory over Orange.
Cross-country

* Irvine, senior. Set course record at Santa Margarita, running 18 minutes 45 seconds for three miles to lead the Vaqueros’ to a 25-30 Sea View League victory over Eagles.
Tennis
Danielle Brandlin
* Los Alamitos, junior. Won her singles sets, 6-1, 6-1, 6-0, in a 16-2 Sunset League victory over Esperanza and, 6-1, 6-0, 6-0, in a 11-7 victory over Edison.
Volleyball
Jami Bari
* Dana Hills, sophomore. Had 48 kills in the Dolphins’ five-game South Coast League loss to No. 2 Mater Dei. Had nine kills in a three-game victory over Mission Viejo.
Wendy Wilkins
* San Clemente, senior. Had 27 kills as the Tritons beat then-No. 4 Capistrano Valley in four games in a South Coast League match.
