Church Right to Fight Pub Owner’s Suit
* Let me get this straight. Calvary Chapel of Costa Mesa owns the Murrieta Hot Springs property where Shakespeare’s Pub and Grill sits. The church forgave $20,000 in unpaid rent and gave the pub extra time to relocate, yet owner Ian Fulton is claiming “religious terrorism� (“Pub Owner Sues New Landlord--Christian Church,†Sept. 30.)
It sounds to me like he is trying to take advantage of the current trend toward “anti-Christianity†and make some money while he’s at it.
For the record, I have attended Calvary Chapel for more than two years. I have heard Pastor Chuck Smith and other church leaders speak about the conference center planned for the Murrieta site many times, and not once have I ever heard anything negative said about current and/or previous tenants.
Unfortunately, Mr. Fulton will probably get something out of this lawsuit because of the way the courts work, but I am glad that church leaders dispute his claim.
One thing though, Mr. Fulton, that you should know is that this fight will not be easily won! You see, we have a secret weapon--it’s called prayer!
