HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL: WEEK 5 : Hart Stopped by Loyola
VALENCIA — A second-half comeback was not enough for Hart High on Friday night and the Indians lost to Loyola, 27-23, in a nonleague game at College of the Canyons.
Scott Walter intercepted two passes by Hart’s Steve McKeon in the fourth quarter to turn back the Indians.
Walter’s second theft came with a minute left. The Indians, trailing by four, had recovered an onside kick and driven to the Loyola 36-yard line.
Hart (4-2) trailed, 14-3, at halftime before rallying to take a 17-14 lead late in the third quarter.
Loyola (4-1) opened the scoring midway through the first quarter with a six-play, 72-yard drive. Mike Vanis scored on an eight-yard run.
Hart answered with a 36-yard field goal by Kevin McLaughlin but the Cubs took the ensuing kickoff and drove 72 yards in eight plays to take a 14-3 lead on Ray Kasper’s 14-yard pass to Antoine Harris.
The Indians turned fumble recoveries into a four-yard touchdown run by Ted Iacenda, who had 198 yards in 21 carries, and a 53-yard scoring pass play from McKeon to Cody Joyce to take the lead.
Loyola regained the lead on a four-yard pass from Kasper to Erik McGoldrick late in the third quarter and scored again on a 92-yard pass play from Kasper to Ryan Capalbo midway through the fourth.
Hart scored on a seven-yard pass from McKeon to J.B. Nelson with 2:31 to play.
