HUNTINGTON BEACH : Liability Concerns Derail Free Bike Plan
Liability concerns have put the brakes on a program to offer free public transportation by refurbishing donated bicycles and placing them downtown, organizers said Friday.
“We are extremely disappointed that the program cannot continue as planned,†said Lynn Beach, who has been overseeing the project for the Bolsa Chica Alliance & Friends.
“The liability issue is simply insurmountable,†she continued. “The only way the program can work is for a company or public agency to step forward and indemnify those of us involved in the program.â€
The Sunshine Transportation Program was intended to offer “environmentally friendly†public transportation: bicycles painted bright yellow.
