Man Held in Fatal Traffic Accident
An Oxnard man remained in jail Friday on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter and driving while intoxicated after a car accident that left one woman dead.
Milagros Guardanapo), 48, of Oxnard, was pronounced dead at the scene after her car was struck at about 7 p.m. Thursday at East 5th Street and Wood Road, the California Highway Patrol said.
Marco A. Ruiz, 45, also of Oxnard, suffered minor injuries and was being held in Ventura County Jail on $250,000 bail Friday.
According to authorities, Guardanapo was driving west on East 5th Street while Ruiz had stopped at a stop sign at Wood Road.
Ruiz drove into the intersection while Guardanapo was crossing it and struck her car, causing her vehicle to veer off the road and overturn into a drainage ditch, authorities said.
Guardanapo suffered major head injuries, while Ruiz had minor cuts and bruises and was treated at St. John’s Regional Medical Center, authorities said.
