FULLERTON : City Office Closure Plan Made Permanent
Despite objections from residents, council members this week decided to permanently close city offices every other Friday to reduce employee commutes and meet state requirements for reducing smog.
Six months ago, city officials said they would temporarily close City Hall and other administrative buildings on alternate Fridays to meet air quality requirements.
The temporary schedule has become permanent, with City Hall, the administrative offices of the police and fire departments and Fullerton Municipal Airport open to the public Monday through Thursday from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. and from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on alternate Fridays.
Employees are required to make up the eight hours on the other days.
The city has no way to measure smog but, officials said, it has met state requirements to reduce employee commutes to work.
But some residents said there is no measure of the plan’s success.
“The whole idea is to improve air quality,†resident Barbara Marr said, “but there’s no proof of that.â€
