Venus slowly creeps from behind the sun and returns to the evening sky during October. Tonight it sets only 35 minutes after the sun and is visible only because it is so brilliant. Look for Venus at 6:45 p.m., when it is immediately above the horizon and slightly to the left of due west, and use binoculars. It gains altitude daily and will be easily visible by the end of the month.
