CAIRO — The government has ordered an American professor who has lived in Egypt for 15 years to leave the country within a week.
Paul Condie, 39, of San Jose said Monday that the government gave no reason for refusing to renew his residence visa.
Condie, a professor of English at the American University in Cairo, has a wife and three children. Sources at the university, speaking on condition of anonymity, said they believe Condie was active in a Christian church, suggesting he may have offended Egyptian sensitivities about proselytizing.
