WASHINGTON — Rep. G. V. (Sonny) Montgomery (D-Miss.), who has zealously protected veterans programs during 15 terms in the House, announced Monday he will retire next year.
“It’s time for me to move on,” he said shortly before he announced his decision at a Mississippi National Guard complex that bears his name.
Montgomery, 75, becomes the 11th and most senior House Democrat to announce he will not seek reelection.
