L.A. Southwest 26, Pierce 20--The Brahmas trailed, 26-0, at halftime but staged a furious second-half rally that fell short.
The Brahmas (1-2, 1-1) used the passing of David Muir to fuel the comeback. Muir completed 10 of 25 for 181 yards. He connected on a 60-yard touchdown pass play to Jermaine Brooks and a 51-yard scoring pass to Jason Howard.
Pierce narrowed the margin to 26-20 on a six-yard run by Tyrone Francis midway through the fourth quarter.
The Brahmas had one final scoring opportunity, but Muir’s pass was intercepted by Roderic Daniels at the Cougars’ 36-yard line with three minutes remaining.
Howard caught four passes for 77 yards and Francis rushed for 84 yards in 11 carries.
