SOUTHERN SECTION ROUNDUP : NONLEAGUE
Nordhoff 31, Oak Park 21--Running backs Greg Coleman and Russell Farrar combined for 261 yards rushing and three touchdowns to give the Rangers (3-1) a come-from-behnd victory over the Eagles (2-2) at Nordhoff.
Coleman finished with 126 yards in 23 carries and two touchdowns on runs of three and four yards. Farrar had 135 yards in 21 carries and a five-yard run that gave Nordhoff the lead for good at 24-21 with 10:34 remaining in the game.
Oak Park was paced by running back Mark McConico, who caught two passes, both for touchdowns. The first was a 14-yarder for the Eagles first score, and the second was a 42-yard screen pass that gave Oak Park a 14-14 tie at the half.
The Eagle ground game was led by Billy Mitchell who rushed 12 times for 48 yards and a touchdown. Receiver Brian Atienza rushed for 49 yards on two end-arounds, the second setting up Mitchell for an 11-yard score that gave Oak Park a short-lived second-half lead, 21-17.
With Oak Park facing a 24-21 deficit and a fourth and 25 at its 1 with 1:38 to play, Coach Dick Billingsley decided to go for it. The pass fell incomplete and Nordhoff scored on the next play for the final margin.
