The works of an African wildlife artist will go on sale Sunday in an open-air gallery to raise money for the Wildlife Waystation, a wild animal refuge in the Angeles National Forest.

The artist, Simon Combes, now living in London, started painting African wildlife after 13 years with the Kenyan army. Several paintings, sketches and line drawings by Combes will be on display from noon to 4 p.m.

Also on sale will be a show poster, signed and numbered limited-edition prints and copies of a book collection of Combes’ work. Prices range from $15 to $15,000.

Visitors to the gallery will be able to tour the Wildlife Waystation for $3 but must make reservations by Wednesday.

The Wildlife Waystation is a 160-acre refuge that is home to more than 1,000 wild and exotic animals--tigers, bears, lions and birds--rescued from around the world. At least another 4,000 animals pass through its gates each year. Just last week, at the request of federal officials, the Waystation became home to more than two dozen lions, tigers and ligers--a cross between the two--that were rescued from a poorly maintained shelter in Idaho.
