The Goddess (Cinemax Tuesday at 8 a.m.) is Paddy Chayefsky’s trenchant 1958 account of Hollywod stardom. Kim Stanley plays a fictionalized version of the late Marilyn Monroe with range and depth and a terrifying sense of isolation. Lloyd Bridges as her star-athlete husband is her perfect foil. John Cromwell directed.
Desert Bloom (Lifetime Wednesday at 2 p.m.): The lovely Annabeth Gish comes of age just at the dawning of the nuclear age in the ‘50s. This 1986 film boasts a fine cast: Jon Voight, JoBeth Williams, Ellen Barkin and Allen Garfield.
Voyager (Bravo Saturday at 5:05 p.m. and 9:30 p.m ), Volker Schlondorff’s most personal and most romantic film, stars Sam Shepard in his most open and vulnerable portrayal to date. He plays an emotionally detached engineer who, through a series of coincidences, unexpectedly experiences both love and tragedy. With Julie Delpy.
