Shane Beschen Is Leader of Pack at Lower Trestles
SAN CLEMENTE — Shane Beschen of San Clemente was Saturday’s big winner on Day 5 of the Body Glove Surfbout at Lower Trestles.
Beschen’s overall score of 23.59 was tops among men during Saturday’s third-round main event competition. Beschen defeated Richie Collins of Newport Beach in six-foot surf to advance to today’s quarterfinal round.
Others advancing included Jeff Deffenbaugh of Huntington Beach, Jeff Booth of Laguna Beach and Mike Parsons and Cory Lopez of San Clemente.
Booth posted the second-highest score among men at 23.02.
Dino Andino of San Clemente had the third-best individual wave score with an 8.50.
Beschen, ranked fifth in the world on the shortboard, also continued his surprising run in the longboard competition to advance to the semifinal round in the Stewart longboard division.
