Marshall 21, Grant 20--Jaime Isaza connected with Michael Orta on a two-point conversion pass to give the Barristers their victory at Marshall. The play followed a 66-yard touchdown pass from Isaza to Erik Mendez with 9:04 left in the game.
An interception by Tele Moa set up a one-yard touchdown run by Lawrence Webb that gave Grant (0-2) a 20-13 lead with 9:55 remaining. Marshall (1-0-1) came back to score on the second play after taking possession.
Trailing, 13-7, at halftime, Grant drove 69 yards in five plays to start the second half. Luis Escamilla’s one-yard run capped a drive that was aided by 33 yards in Marshall penalties, but Eduardo Mendoza missed the point after.
The Lancers were held to 152 yards in offense, but forced three turnovers and took advantage of 107 yards in Barrister penalties.
Rigo Sanchez completed five of 18 for 63 yards for Grant and Lalo Torres rushed for 38 yards in four carries. Torres’ four-yard touchdown run gave Grant a 6-0 lead in the first quarter.
