The local cross-country invitational season begins Saturday with meets at Woodbridge and Sunny Hills.
The 15th Woodbridge Invitational, featuring teams from more than 135 schools, will be run in two sessions. The Division I and II races will be held between 7:45 and 10:55 a.m.; the Division III and IV races will be between 3 and 6:10 p.m.
Division I competition will feature the girls’ teams from Irvine, Dana Hills and Los Alamitos, and the boys’ teams from Tustin, Huntington Beach, Santa Ana and Capistrano Valley. Local teams in Division II include the girls from El Toro--who last year finished with the day’s fastest overall time (95 minutes 9 seconds)--Edison, Foothill and Santa Ana Valley, and the boys from Santa Ana Valley, Mater Dei and Orange.
Division III features two top individual runners, Buena Park sophomore Heather Garritson and Glendora St. Lucy’s senior Annie Ebiner. The boys’ and girls’ teams from Corona del Mar race in Division IV.
The second Sunny Hills Invitational is scheduled to begin at 8:30 a.m. at Clark Park in Buena Park. The Edison boys and Brea Olinda girls are expected to highlight the 22-team invitational.
