COLLEGE FOOTBALL / DAILY REPORT : AROUND THE NATION : Kansas Runs Hot, Cold in Beating TCU
June Henley and L.T. Levine each rushed for two touchdowns and more than 100 yards, including a pair of fourth-quarter sprints that halted Texas Christian’s comeback, and Kansas rolled past the Horned Frogs, 38-20, Thursday night at Lawrence, Kan.
Kansas, off to a 3-0 start for the first time since 1992, was led by Henley’s 160 yards and Levine’s 134. The Jayhawks rushed for 183 yards in the first half while mounting a 21-7 lead. But they had minus three yards on the ground in the third quarter as TCU (1-1) took control of everything but the score.
TCU’s senior quarterback Max Knake passed for 383 yards and two touchdowns and erased Sammy Baugh’s school record with his 40th touchdown pass. His 41st went 11 yards to Ryan Tucker with 1:02 left.

Arizona Coach Dick Tomey will miss Saturday’s game at Illinois to attend the funeral in Los Angeles of Wildcat senior tight end Damon Terrell, who died last week. Tomey said three of his assistant coaches--Duane Akina, Rich Ellerson and Larry MacDuff--will coach the team.

Miami linebacker Ray Lewis is under investigation by police for aggravated battery after getting involved in an argument and shoving match between his current and former girlfriends. Another Miami linebacker, James Burgess, pleaded innocent to charges of battery on a police officer and resisting arrest after an altercation at a dance club in June.
