1995 PREP PREVIEW: BOYS’ CROSS-COUNTRY : Six Teams to Watch : Santa Ana
- Share via
Coach: Roger Nava (third year).
1994: Golden West League Champions, sixth at the Orange County Championships.
Key returners: Irlandes Castanon, So.; Jesus Lopez, Sr.; Jesus Loza, Jr.; Wenceslado Morales, Sr.; Julio Paz, Jr.; Luis Perez, So; Raul Quinonez, Jr.; Daniel Rivero, Sr.
Key newcomers: Raul Chavez, So.; Jorge Pena, Fr.; Juan Salgado, Fr.
Outlook: Another year, another solid Santa Ana cross-country team. This Saint team has a fair share of experience, but is much younger than the 1993 county champion. Morales, the lone remaining member of the ’93 team, and Rivero will be the top runners for Nava. Morales finished 10th at the county championships at Irvine Park and is the second-fastest county returner on that course. Paz, Lopez and Quinonez all were solid contributors last season. Castanon finished fourth in the freshman/sophomore 3,000-meter race last spring at the Orange County championships.
