Coach: Tom Coffey (23rd year).
1994: Finished third in the Golden West League and fifth at the Southern Section Division II-A preliminaries.
Key returners: Brian Cameron, Jr.; Tom Coffey Jr., Jr.; Mike Gavar, Sr.; Martin Kuklinski, Jr.; C.J. Marciales, So.; Daniel Smith, Jr.; Antonio Zarate, Sr.
Key newcomers: Miguel Rugley, Sr.; Juan Rosas, Sr.; Ray Vergara, Jr.
Outlook: The Tillers are loaded this fall. With only four seniors among the top 10, Coffey’s group will be loaded next year, too. Gavar and Smith will be the team leaders, with the latter winning the county freshman/sophomore track and field titles at both 1,500 and 3,000 meters last spring. Gavar finished fifth in the tough Golden West League as a junior. Kuklinski, Coffey and Marciales will be counted on to fill the next three spots, while any number of runners will combine to fill out the top seven. “We have nothing to surprise anyone,” Coffey said. “It’s just mainly getting the whole group to perform together.”
