Coach: Bill Christiansen (third year).
1994: 21-4 overall, 10-0 in the Pacific Coast League; lost to Huntington Beach in the quarterfinals of the Southern Section Division I playoffs.
Key returners: Carrie Zeller, 5-9, swing hitter, Sr.; Michelle Christ, 6-2, opposite, Sr.; Ashley Englander, 5-6, swing hitter, Sr.; Erika Hansen, 5-11, middle blocker, Sr.
Key newcomers: Carolyn Kittell, 5-7, setter, Jr.; Ashley Roth, 6-0, middle blocker, Jr.
Outlook: The Artists are looking for their ninth consecutive league title and are hoping for their first Southern Section title since 1991. Christiansen was the boys’ and girls’ coach at Laguna Beach from 1986 to 1987 before taking over a high school volleyball program in Northern California. He returned to Laguna Beach in 1991 and served as Michael Soylular’s assistant for the past four years before taking over the girls’ program this season. The Laguna Beach roster features 10 seniors and four juniors. “The key thing is easy to point out: We have unbelievable depth and experience,” Christiansen said.
