OUTLOOK
On Oct. 7, the Colonists improved to 5-0 after defeating Orange, 20-15, in a nonleague game. They were ranked seventh in the county in a poll of county sportswriters and seemed poised to make a run at the Orange League title. Over the next five weeks, however, the Colonists collapsed in perplexing fashion. Anaheim’s record was 1-3-1 during that span and it failed to qualify for the Southern Section Division V playoffs. Carter believes he has identified the problem--and is intent on eliminating it this season. “We just peaked too early,” said the former USC running back. “This season, we’re going to pace ourselves.” Reuben Droughns is among the West Coast’s best senior running backs. As a junior, he rushed for 1,752 yards and 21 touchdowns. His brother, Robert, is a college prospect as well.
