Weekend TV : Welfare Reform, Football Openers on Tap

“City View” takes a look at the welfare reform movement and how proposals and cuts may affect children on “What About the Kids?” Government programs and welfare recipients are profiled, with KABC-TV news anchor Alicia Lee as host. Also appearing are Peter Digre of the county’s Department of Children and Family Services and L.A. Times columnist Al Martinez, Sunday at 5 p.m. on Channel 7.
In sports, the Raiders may have moved to Oakland but their NFL regular-season opener Sunday against the San Diego Chargers will be seen locally on NBC at 1 p.m. (Channels 4 and 36).
Other opening-day games to be broadcast here include a doubleheader on Fox--the San Francisco 49ers at the New Orleans Saints (10 a.m.) and the Minnesota Vikings at Chicago Bears (1 p.m.) on Channel 11.
At 5 p.m., cable’s TNT offers the Buffalo Bills at the Denver Broncos.
